Tile Flooring

Porcelain and ceramic tile bring standout durability, water resistance, and design range to kitchens, baths, and entryways.

Why Tile Remains a Top Flooring Choice

Tile flooring has been used in homes for thousands of years, and modern manufacturing has only expanded its appeal. Today's porcelain and ceramic tiles can replicate the look of natural marble, travertine, slate, hardwood, and even poured concrete with striking realism. Combined with exceptional durability and near-zero water absorption, tile is the go-to material for rooms where moisture, heat, and heavy use are everyday realities.

At Carroll's Carpet and Flooring, we offer a wide range of residential tile options. Whether you envision a classic white subway tile bathroom, a large-format porcelain kitchen floor, or a wood-look tile for your living room, our store has the selection and our installers have the skill to make it happen.

The two most common residential tiles are porcelain and ceramic. Both are made from clay fired at high heat, but porcelain is fired hotter and denser, giving it a very low water-absorption rate that suits bathrooms, entryways, and other wet areas. Tiles are also rated for hardness and slip resistance, which helps guide where a given tile belongs, whether that is a busy mudroom floor or a decorative backsplash.

Just as important as the tile itself is what goes underneath it. A flat, stable substrate, the right thin-set mortar, and, in wet areas, a waterproofing membrane all protect the finished floor from cracking and moisture over the years. Grout color and joint width then shape the final look, from nearly seamless large-format floors to crisp, classic grid patterns. We are happy to walk you through each of these choices.

Benefits of Tile Flooring for Your Home

  • Exceptional Durability: Tile is one of the hardest flooring materials available. It resists scratches, dents, and heavy impacts better than almost any other residential floor.
  • Water & Moisture Proof: Porcelain tile absorbs virtually no water, making it perfect for bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, and mudrooms. Properly grouted and sealed tile floors handle splashes and spills without concern.
  • Low Maintenance: Tile requires only regular sweeping and mopping. It does not need sealing (except for grout lines), waxing, or refinishing.
  • Hypoallergenic: Tile does not trap allergens, dust, or pet dander. Its hard surface makes it easy to keep clean, benefiting allergy and asthma sufferers.
  • Heat Resistance: Tile is fireproof and works beautifully with radiant floor heating systems, providing efficient warmth distribution during Northeast Ohio winters.
  • Limitless Design Options: Available in virtually any color, size, shape, and pattern. Create unique layouts with mosaics, herringbone patterns, large-format slabs, and decorative borders.

Types of tile we carry

Tile ranges from dense porcelain to decorative mosaics and realistic wood and stone looks. These are the options we stock and install.

Porcelain tile
Our most popular residential tile. Dense, hard, and nearly impervious to water, porcelain suits any room, including high-moisture areas. Polished, matte, and textured finishes.
Ceramic tile
A cost-effective option for walls, backsplashes, and lighter-traffic floors. A wide range of colors and patterns, and easier to cut than porcelain for custom work.
Wood-look tile
Porcelain planks that replicate the grain, color, and texture of real hardwood for kitchens, bathrooms, and basements where real wood is not practical.
Natural stone-look tile
The look of marble, travertine, slate, or limestone without the porosity and upkeep of natural stone, thanks to modern inkjet printing.
Mosaic and decorative tile
Small-format tiles in glass, porcelain, or natural stone for accents, shower floors, backsplashes, and feature walls.
Large-format tile
Tiles 24 inches and larger create a sleek look with fewer grout lines. Popular for open-concept living areas, modern kitchens, and spa-style baths.

Installation and everyday care

Tile installation is a skilled trade that demands precision. Subfloor preparation, waterproof membrane application, thin-set selection, tile layout, grout spacing, and transitions all require experience and attention to detail. Carroll's Carpet and Flooring has been in business since 1946, and we bring that experience to every residential tile project, from a simple bathroom remodel to a full kitchen floor with custom patterns and heated underlayment.

Once it is down, tile is easy to live with. A few habits keep it looking new for decades:

  • Sweep or vacuum regularly so grit cannot scratch the surface.
  • Mop with warm water and a pH-neutral, non-abrasive cleaner.
  • Seal grout lines every 1 to 2 years to resist stains and moisture.
  • Replace a cracked tile promptly; neighbors stay undisturbed.
  • Use non-slip bath mats to keep standing water off grout.
  • Scrub textured or matte tiles now and then to clear the grooves.
